Shine was established in the third dimension in July 2020. Founding hairstylist Lizzie Leigh and her life and design partner James Bolenbaugh seized the opportunity to create this beautiful space. James, a concept illustrator, set designer and production designer working in the tv and film industry, brought Shine to life from concept to build. Together, Lizzie and James have created a super cool tiny salon in the Glassell Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. You can find out more about James' work at www.bolenbaugh.com or on

Lizzie
Lizzie's first love was photography. She received a BFA in photography from The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. After working in many avenues within the photo industry she was let go from a soul crushing office job in the economic collapse of 2008. Like many things in life, what felt bad in the moment turned out to be a blessing, leading her to pursue a career in hairstyling. After graduating from the Aveda Academy Soho, NYC in 2009, Lizzie went on to apprentice under a diversely trained team at Whistle Salon in the East Village, NYC. Dedicating herself to the craft, she quickly advanced from assistant, to junior stylist, to senior stylist. After styling at Whistle for 7 years, and living in NYC for nearly 16, she decided to check out life on the west coast with her partner, James. They have been living in Silver Lake since January of 2017.

"I offer cut and color services on all textures. I like to take my time with the consultation and really suss out what it is you are looking for, what will work with your lifestyle and your commitment to maintenance. There are many reasons a person may come for a service, this can be an important piece of the puzzle. What are you hoping for? How do you want to feel? Do you just need a little maintenance or do you want to feel like a different person? I love doing natural highlights, and I also love doing wild, expressive color. I love doing feminine short hair, and masculine long hair. The truth is, I love having a variety of services on my book and making people feel good.
In my free time I read tarot, meditate, camp, drink celery juice, and read about past life regressions and other-dimensional experiences."

glenn
Glenn, originally from upstate New York, discovered her love for hair and beauty at a young age. In her early 20’s she worked in New York's vibrant bar and restaurant scene, before attending the Aveda Institute in 2013. Her love and admiration of the service industry and the deep bonds she made there, influenced her career as a hairstylist. Being able to connect with clients and build community while exploring the expansive craft of hairstyling became her purpose.
After attending Aveda, she apprenticed under master colorist Eric Muroski. She worked with him and continued to hone her skills at various salons in downtown NYC before venturing into her own private studio.
As a hairstylist, she thrives on enhancing the natural beauty of each individual's hair and fostering a sense of confidence and empowerment in her clients. Through thoughtful consultation, she strives to find the connection between the inspiration photo and her client’s natural hair. She loves educating clients on home styling techniques and creating effortless seeming hairstyles. Her passion lies in hair cuts with movement, dimensional blondes and rich, shiny and healthy hair.
When not at the salon, Glenn loves hiking, camping and exploring the natural beauty of California with her dog, Ethel, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Peanut
Peanut is Lizzie's six year old rescue Chihuahua Dachshund mix. Peanut loves to sunbathe or cuddle in your lap during her work day. She is a very calm and sweet little friend and makes the Shine experience even better.
ethel
Ethel is Glenn's happy go lucky senior gal. She loves to provide emotional support during an appointment by leaning against your leg and tucking under your cape. Her exact age and history are a bit of a mystery but it’s safe to say she’s found her calling as “salon dog”.
